A Night To Remember

It was a little after 8 p.m and the sun just set. It was the perfect July summer night to throw a rooftop party, a party the city of Los Angeles will never forget. The paparazzi stood outside of the hotel to get a detailed snapshot of the celebrities that arrived from head to toe. Flashing lights were everywhere. It was annoying at first but we knew they would be there, and I pretended like they were nonexistent as usual. Limousines, Lamborghinis, and Bentleys all pulled up and celebrities handed their keys to the valet and rushed upstairs to the top floor where the party was taking place.

There was so much traffic on sunset Blvd and I realized it was because of my party. My party shut down the whole block. We finally pulled up to the hotel, my driver got out the car and proceeded to open my door, my never worn before red bottoms hit the pavement one leg at a time. My freshly shaved legs were the first thing onlookers could see. My dress hugged me tight like a child to her mother. My date helped me out the car and we walked straight towards the front entrance of the hotel. I arrived late because it was my birthday party and it was acceptable.

I've never seen so many celebrities in one place before, it looked like the after party to the Oscars. Everyone was there to wish me a happy birthday. The DJ played soft music in the background and I heard some tapping silverware on an empty champagne glass saying “EVERYONE THE BIRTHDAY GIRL IS HERE”. Instantly the room grew silent and everyone turned and faced the entrance where I was standing. My date let go of my arm and stood in front of me, staring as if he was moving out the way so I can have the spotlight. I begged my publicist to continue on with the party and wish me birthday wishes later on in the night.

There were drinks, everywhere. Waitresses walking around with trays of the most expensive champagne attached with sparklers that looked like mini fireworks from a distance. The hotel catered little finger foods that you could enjoy without being messy. Everyone was mingling with one another, laughing and cheering on my drunken uncle to do the latest dance. People were taking pictures with the beautiful skyline in the background.

As I looked around the room I became overwhelmed with joy. Everyone was there for me. Although some people just came to show their face and leave the amount of people that stayed were many. The amount of gifts that I received was outstanding and surprising.

The party finally ended at 2 a.m. The party came and went by so fast. I just want to thank everyone for coming out to my birthday event. I hope you all enjoyed yourself as much as I did. I will be sending everyone who attended gift bags to your house. Be on the lookout for a package shortly. BEST BIRTHDAY EVERRRR! Thank you for a night I will never forget.

Player, Player.

Dear Mr. Player,
As if having to deal with one woman isn’t a headache already, you rather deal with multiple women at one time. You flash your bright smile at every girl that walks by. You don’t have a type. Females are the only thing you like. Your car is fast and shiny. You call your women “baby” because trying to remember five different names are a challenge for your size brain. I feel for you.

She was taken from your rib and yet you treat her as if she isn’t a precious queen. What is your motive for treating women so bad? Are you trying to cover up the fact that you might be playing for the wrong team? Whatever your situation maybe, you should stripped of your dignity. Literally.

Numerous girls are much more expensive than having one girl. Females like to go out on dates and spend other people’s money. It is a good idea to narrow down your opinions. But you’re not going to because the image of multiple women are becoming more acceptable in this generation. And you’re all about your image.

Several women means multiple sex partners. That’s nasty. Because those women are probably having sex with other men too. That’s a never ending pool of transmitted diseases and infections. Even a glove can’t save you in situations like this. Be smart and love one woman at a time.

I met your type before. I could tell by his demeanor he was a player. His approach was smooth and carefully. He knew all the right words to say to make me crack a smile. Then I thought to myself it was too good to be true. I thought about giving you a taste of your own medicine. Having multiple men and make you feel like you’re the only one. But I wouldn’t get the same praise as you and my reputation isn’t worth your heartbreak. So I politely said I have a boyfriend and walked away. You don’t take rejection too well so you cursed me out.

In the near future, if you aren’t ready for a relationship don’t make a women feel like she’s the only one you’re talking to. Be honest with the girls, let them knows it’s about 10 more like them and anyone can be replaced at any time. Don’t like to us , 9 times out of 10 if we ask you something we already know the answer.

ALL THE WORST,
Rakael T.

Seven feelings

An author by the name of Dan Josefson made a visit to a Garden City college campus by the name of Nassau Community College. He was invited to do a reading in which he discussed his new novel entitled That’s Not A Feeling. A tall introverted man stood in front of his audience and began to speak very low and quietly. An onlooker could observe from his demeanor he was not officially comfortable with speaking out to a group of college students. However, as time went on he was more comfortable with the idea of speaking aloud to his spectators. If you are an individual who enjoys reading books that are relevant and relatable, I would recommend you read this particular book selection.
A “therapeutic boarding school” is what Author Dan Josefson describes the main setting of where his novel takes place. A place for unruly students who were previous kicked out of a school. He opens up with giving listeners an excerpt from the beginning of the novel to the ending of the novel. The first snippet goes into detail about the first encounter with the current students of the boarding school and a particularly new student. The students are outside going around the circle introducing one another and describing the events that led up to their acceptance into such a school. You can distinctively recognize the rising action and the falling action when the person in charge of the school becomes sick and starts to lose hope in his empire that he built.

The language of the few excerpts were plain enough for a basic reader to understand but still painted a picture of the actual scene in your mind. It is a language that sounds relatable to teens that are troubled and adults trying to understand them. This novel is timeless since the world will always be filled with rebellious teenagers looking for a place to fit in.
At the end of the reading, Josefson answered questions that related to his process of writing. He told the audience it took an overall of six years to publish his book from start to finish (Josefson). This time period is evident when listening to passages from the novel because you can hear strategic details that complement each other. He also explains that his inspiration for the book came from his past experience working at a boarding school.
Being a listener at an organized reading like this is an interesting task, you are able to listen to an author whose spend years working on a book that has a couple hundred pages to show for it.  Dan Josefson is a regular humble individual. This showed me that anyone can have an idea, turn it into a book and publish it as long as you have the ambition to do so.

Digital Is Convenient

Digital is an ever changing development. In “Why Digital Is better Than Print,” Dan Blank describes the evolving epidemic of digital and how it makes reading a whole lot easier to obtain. He does, however, express his love for paper but has recently realized digital may be more convenient. Blank states, “this is one of the many things that search engines have given us-the ability to dive deep into the archives of all media to pull up relevant results the moment you need it”(Blank). Today’s generation would agree, many times print is only relevant during the “here and now” but with digital a person is able to go back in history as far as the prehistoric times.

Blank argues that “digital is green”. Digital does not harbor a lot of space and it does not waste a lot of paper like print often does. Once someone is done reading the magazine article, or newspaper article it goes directly into the trash. Most times the articles are not recycled and it becomes an unwanted piece of paper. In more recent times, magazines and newspapers are being read on more suitable mobile devices.

Digital is constantly changing while print stays consistent. Inventors are finding new ways to make digital faster and more innovative. Digital draws more people to choosing the faster, more convenient route over print in most cases. “Once you digitize something, you unleash a world of possibilities. No longer to one medium, it can morph, evolve, be segment or expanded, be  updated, be aggregated, be hyperlinked, and mashed up”. Blank describes how digital can take upon any form while print stays the same over time.

When connecting with people blank suggest “As we find personal connection more and more in digital realm, the reasons for avoiding it will slip away” (blank). People are able to communicate with distant relatives and friends through the internet instead of hand written letters. People can instantly receive messages from someone instead of waiting several days for it to be delivered in the mail. While connecting with people someone knows is grand, people can also use the internet to share an opinion they want to express. A person does not have to work in an editorial office to have an opinion but simply a mind and the ability to type.

No one should dictate how an individual should read, write or spend their free time. Whether it’s through the use of paper or digital all that matters is what’s more convenient for that person. As the world is changing and become more digital leaving print in the dust it only makes sense that more and more people gravitate to technology over print.
